my son and i went down to market st to spend some time together a few weeks back. it is so different down there these days. lots of shops and new construction going on. nice to see activity like this happening downtown. i guess we are catching up. finally! i really like this joint, called Please & Thank You. they have vinyl records, coffee and sweetness. enough said.

muth’s candy has been around since 1921 making bourbon chocolates.

just go down there, park and walk around. pleasant surprises await…..

#2 is almost here

i will be photographing this unborn baby when he gets here in the next few weeks. i decided i wanted to capture mommy and big sister before his birthday and i am so happy we did it. the weather has been warm here and i was desperate to get outside and take advantage of it.

can’t wait to meet #2 but until then….

i took a trip to fairfield on this beautiful but very windy day to photograph this family. in short, they get it. i had such a great time. didn’t want to go home and definitely want to go back.

this farm is lucky to have this family.

we cannot forget the rooster and his chickens.

thanks for letting me hang out with you on the farm! i won’t forget how welcoming and genuine you all are!

she is an aspiring engineer and serious volleyball player- not a high fashion super model. and i love that about her.

this post was challenging for me due to the fact there are so many great images from this meeting. less is more but i can’t help myself.

this senior session turned into something much greater than i could have imagined. rachel, you have an awesome mother, father and a sister whom i look forward to meeting! donna, it has been great to work with you and i can’t wait to eat humus and sip red wine again soon!

revised- personal project- “every picture tells a story”

since i took the last photograph of my grandfather two years ago, i realized i needed to recognize the ones i call the greatest generation. here is kenny and ineda. they have been married for over 50 years. i looked through their wedding album. it was awesome to see them in the beginning, and now. he takes care of her and she keeps him on his toes. when i asked what the secret to a good marriage is, he said, “doing whatever she says.”

what do they do in their retired time? cruises. around 50 of them so far. do you think they will adopt me as a grand-daughter? i am planning on asking when i see them again.

for this project i am looking for people 75 and older. if you have parents, grand-parents, dear friends or neighbors who have a story to tell, please let me know. this is a personal project, therefor it is free.

ok i wasn’t going to do two posts in one day, but i cannot help myself and my PTBFF told me to. these are of this couple but taken with some kodak porta 400, manual focus at f/2 with a canon 50mm 1.4. whatever your opinion on how much better, or worse, the images are…… i don’t care much. i love these because they were taken with much care and attention. i decided i was going to pop some more off at the end of the session- FOR ME! cannot imagine what these would look like if i had sent them to richard photo lab in CA.

and another important thing- it takes love to make people do this! you guys are the coolest!

i have been messing around with film for several years now. it has been my way of “shooting for me,” a creative thing photographers must do to stay sane. i think i have ADD and i have found that film suits me well. it calms me down and puts my mind in visualization mode, a very important skill in the craft of photography. plus the fact i can shoot, have the film developed and scanned with little or no photoshop involved. a BIG deal for me. there seems to be a lot of photographers leaving digital these days. i haven’t jumped on that band wagon as of yet, mostly due to the fact that it’s a popular thing to do, but it sure is tempting. they both have their place and i cannot say which place i want to be 100%. maybe both? who knows.

here are a few taken at locust grove. it’s simply beautiful there, and i felt it best to use film to capture the history, color and peacefulness that exists on an early morning in late summer here in louisville, kentucky.
