there are so many fun images from this session it is overwhelming. mom has a challenge deciding what to print from her cd. variety is king!

clients with small children are always worried they won’t get good images from the session. kids are crazy and excited and mom and dad are stressed enough already to have photos made and even more so when the kids don’t “cooperate.” but it always turns out great! the point of it all is to capture the here and now, the reality of life as you know it at this particular time of your life.

if you have a lot going on, this session is proof it is possible! she is a doctor and he owns a bike shop, with two, very young boys. WOW! you also can get this done and come out glad you did! i need to practice what i preach…….

i love family sessions like these and need to do more of them. thanks guys for letting me into your busy world for a couple of hours. you have a lot to be thankful for and your hard work will pay off!

i had a wonderful time with the richardson gang. it’s a blessing for me to be able to work in an atmosphere where everyone is casual and relaxed. it’s always a challenge for the kids, but that is ok. perfection is over-rated and there are not many times that it is possible to get everyone in the same place, on the same day, at the same time. we all get so caught up in the race and forget that at any given time, life can change in an instant. you never know what is ahead of you. it is a challenge to get photos taken, but they are so important. if you have the opportunity to have a photographer, take it and just be together. if you can’t hire a photographer, set up a tripod or get your neighbor to come over and take a few photos. you will be glad one day that you did.

mom is just beautiful. she doesn’t want me to say it i am sure, but she is a real beauty queen. i admire her determination and hard work very much. a real inspiration to women everywhere.

i was very blessed to photograph this family. they are one to be admired. i hope i can raise my kids as well as chuck and beth. you both should be extremely proud! you are a wonderful christian family.

i have learned over the past year my niche is photographing families. i love being the invisible element with a camera when people really start being people. it’s magic when everyone gets comfortable and lets me “in” so i can pull out the real, uninhibited personalities with my lens. this was the case with this family. mr. and mrs. moss, in the first photo below, have been so gracious allowing me to come into their home numerous times to photograph one of the grand-daughters, lily, who you can see here and here and here. they asked me to photograph the whole family while everyone was in for christmas. what made them take the time after the stress of the holidays to do this? well because they get it. they understand the importance of having photographs made and i am extremely grateful for that!

see the young lady in the pink sweater? that’s mimi. she’s an amazing woman and the real reason this day happened.

and i do mean hopping. we went everywhere.

i have come across a few sessions i didn’t blog about from last summer, (shame on me). looking through these, i remember how warm it was and i can feel it coming through in these shots. bring on the HOT!

what an adventurous session this was. downtown louisville has changed so much. i will be taking advantage of what it has to offer a lot since my new office/studio is so close. i am a country girl who has a craving for the city and all it implies. i can be both right?

can’t wait for shooting season to start!!

and someone had a birthday. thanks to louisvillecupcakes.com it was possible to celebrate this birthday. thanks! YUM.

No really, he is. His name is Wyatt Doll. He is precious, happy, content, easy to please and very cute. We became fast friends. And his mom and dad, some of the most down to earth and laid back people I have ever met. I was very impressed with dad. He e-mailed me to book an appointment. I just love it when father’s take it upon themselves to do something like this for their family.

The one above and the one below are my favorites… she is so real here and also very pretty.

Thanks guys for allowing me to photograph your new family. It was an ABSOLUTE pleasure!

Hello Monday after Thanksgiving! I am so glad you are here. The holidays stress me out, so the faster each Monday comes the better! Looking forward to January 2nd. Another year older, another resolution. But I am ready-BRING IT, time to leave the past behind and start anew.

I have been a bad little blogger. So this week I will be playing catch-up. Here is the first in a long line.

Meet The Snyder’s!! Horses, pretty red barns, 4-wheelers, cats, guns, bows and arrows, good-looking people- the wonderful things this session gave me. They say a family who plays together, stays together. How lucky they are to have this land and each other! I had so much fun with them.

There are a lot of pictures here because that is what I do- OVERSHOOT! I can’t help it. I want my clients to have a ton of pictures and when a session is like this one, that is what you get- lots of pictures.

It is challenging to blog. I have to wait for it to come. Contemplate the session after I decompress from it. (Usually takes a couple bottles of beer for that to happen). What came from it other than pictures? There is always something more. I know my fellow photographer friends know what I am talking about. What came from this session was for me. These kids are GORGEOUS, without a doubt, so it was easy as pie to jump in and go for it.

I am allowed to toot my own horn right? and say that I am really happy with my work right now. Sure I will look back in a year and say, “Gosh those pictures are horrible,” like I do with pictures taken last year, but for now, contentment is mine. My inner eye is confident.

I am at a point where I don’t care if something is technically right or not. I don’t care about the rules anymore. I get all of that. I can take a picture straight out of the camera and be confident it is a proper exposure. The shots that make you stop and look again are the ones that matter and sometimes those are not “right.” If the focus falls somewhere else, but it makes me stop and wonder, it’s a good shot.

I played with dramatic lighting on this day. Dramatic “natural” lighting. I love shadows and depth, so these days I am following my bliss with it. Last year that wouldn’t have happened. Inner eye. Inner eye.

Blah blah blah….. here are the cutie pies. So cute in fact I put them on my splash page. Thanks Maddie and Abram for being who you are and for allowing me to learn and keep it real!
