I spent the last couple of days in the mountains watching my mom and dad get rid of some of my grandfather’s belongings. Furniture, shoes, trinkets, appliances, cars, tables, shelves, file cabinets, you name it. Needless to say it was not pleasant. When we die our “stuff” doesn’t go with us. Makes me look at my material possessions in a different light. When it comes right down to it the only things that matter are the photographs. Thankfully, I will be hanging some amazing and very old ones on my walls. Ahhh the photos, the photos…….
The one positive from the trip was the fun I had shooting and watching Rylee play in my great aunt’s backyard where I played. Reminiscing at the place I spent much of my time as a child. Dirt bikes, basketball, Hot Wheels, fighting with my cousins, writing “Laura Wuz Here” on the little desk we played school with. Running so fast and playing so hard I would throw-up. Listening to KISS and all kinds of Classic Rock 8-Tracks from Supertramp, to Bob Seger, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straights, Pink Floyd, The Who. Gosh, I could go on and on. There is a memory in every song. Staying up late high on Ale 8′s and Atari, then getting up early and eating Captain Crunch, Pop Tarts and powdered donuts for breakfast. Hurrying to the barn to ride before it got too hot. Spending all day there, getting so dirty my bath-water was black, man that was fun. Going to The Twin for conies, and ice cream cones on hot summer nights. My my how Irvine has changed. Simply said, it’s bittersweet. I would cry because I didn’t want to leave. Funny how age and maturity brings perspective and respect for your past and those memories and places in it. It’s an interesting and beautiful place and for Rylee I will visit and keep those memories alive. Roots.
Eastern Kentucky is special. Right now with everything blooming, there is a lot of color and freshness in the air. Crisp blue skies, light green mountain sides, flower petals flying around. For a photographer, it’s heaven.

Seems like I could have just opened the door of this birdhouse and walked right in.

And we can’t forget Boone.

or the Ale 8

I used Addy Lane’s delicacies with some of these. They added that special touch. Love these actions! If you want something fun to play with buy them!
